EIW 2014

Entrepreneurship Immersion Week 2014

The 7th Annual Entrepreneurship Immersion Week (EIW) was hosted by University of Akron, August 3-8, 2014. EIW, nationally recognized for its innovativeness in teaching entrepreneurship, is an intensive one-week, academic experience for undergraduates from all disciplines to immerse themselves in the skills needed to help them develop new business concepts. The week culminates with a team-based business concept competition.

This year fifty-three students attended academic sessions and participated in breakout sessions to explore business ideas, innovation, creativity, and networking. Each team also spent the week developing a business concept that they then presented to a panel of judges at the end of the week. The winning teams this year were:

1st Place – John Carroll University

John Carroll Team: R. Distler, A. Bucci, C. Kriebel, M. Sokol

2nd Place – Case Western University UniversityCase Team: W. Littlefield, J. Sender, C. Williams, J. Dolgin and R. Semco

3rd Place – Lake Erie College

What students said about EIW2014

EIW really is a phenomenal program, and thinking back upon the week, I realize just how much I’ve learned and grown from my experiences there. The amount of funding the program has is absolutely incredible, and I’m grateful that I’m able to walk away with a small hedge fund as a result of simply learning and working with a team.”

I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur but have struggled to get the ball rolling on my ideas. Given the opportunity to go back in time and give my college-freshman-self some advice, it would sound something like this: Sign up for Entrepreneurship Immersion Week! You are going to learn more about starting a business in those six days than you did in the last ten years. The knowledge and dedication of the faculty will impress you from start to finish. Maybe most importantly, you are going to have a lot of fun meeting like-minded people and making lasting friendships. Don’t miss out on this opportunity because it will change the direction of your life!
